Finding Your Niche In The Aesthetics World

Updated: Apr 14

When starting off your journey in the aesthetic industry, most are encourage to take all clients and never to turn money down. This could be some of the worst piece of advice ever. In this article, I will go over how niching down your career is best in order to have a great direction for your brand your audience and your target client.

As licensed aestheticians, we are encouraged to do all aspects of aesthetics. In school, we’re encouraged to do well at waxing, brows, lashes, facials and make up. This is great to start out however, once you start your career spending time training and energy in all aspects of aesthetics may be confusing to your clients.

Here are some ways for you to niche down in your career that helped me create a customized experience for my clients:

Establish Your Type of Esthetics: Defining what type of aesthetician you are will your career and all your efforts into one area. The best time to establish this is in school figure out what aspect of aesthetics you like whether it be waxing Brow’s lashes. School is the best time to try everything but also to identify which of these you like the most some people pick two especially if it’s a type of waxing such as brows and body waxing. However, you’re find very quickly which when you excel at the best. Also there are types of estheticians such as traditional, medical and holistic. These are subsets of the career and can help direct your clients if you want to offer lasers, acne treatments. Knowing what kind of esthetician you are can help streamline your additional training, the type of equipment you want to use and even the type of products you want exposure to.

Review Your Numbers: for aestheticians that I’ve already been in the industry and you’re either working for a company or you’re a solo aesthetician, looking at your numbers for your business help immensely. You can see numbers-wise what services appeal to your clients, what your clients are booking the most, which services are your most popular, and most importantly which ones that are not popular . This may help you to streamline your services, and invest in what brings you the most revenue.

Offering specific services to clients sounds scary. However, this will make you more of an expert in your specific services that you offer. This way you can establish that comfort with your clients and future customers for them to feel comfortable that you know what you are doing.
